This one had a lot going on. We came in to tear out an old timber retaining wall that had built-in steps - the kind of setup that looks fine at first glance but causes real problems over time. Timber walls rot, shift, and eventually become a safety hazard. The goal here was to clear it all out and start fresh with something that actually works long-term.
Demo and excavation is where every project like this starts. We got the skid steer in and started pulling everything apart - and that's when we hit the rock. A massive buried boulder that had to be dealt with before anything else could happen. That's just part of the job. You plan for surprises, you adapt, and you keep moving. The grading work that followed leveled things out and set a proper base for everything coming next.
On the front side of the property, we laid a two-tone paver walkway leading right to the front door. The pattern work here - a field of larger, warm-toned pavers bordered by a darker cobble edge - takes real attention to detail to pull off cleanly. It completely changes how the front of the house feels from the curb.
Out back, we built out a large paver patio that ties into the existing deck stairs. The surrounding ground was graded smooth and topsoil was spread across the whole area to prep it for lawn restoration. Then came the low-voltage lighting to finish everything off - because a yard that looks great at night is a yard you actually use year-round.
Projects like this are never just one thing. It's excavation, hardscaping, grading, and landscape renovation all working together. When it all comes together the right way, the difference is hard to miss.
